This week at Bungie, we’re talking about Solstice loot, gunsmith reputation changes, and finally, we’d like to invite you to save the special date.
Before moving on to the latest TWAB, we want to share a small statement following recent events, especially regarding cases of harassment in our community. Our goal is to create a healthy, inclusive and kind community. While there is a lot of talk about online harassment, we want to take this opportunity to remind people, as we have done in the past, not to try to harass, attack, or lash out at anyone Bungie is suing. The best way to support this community is to be a positive example of the kindness and openness that is at the core of what it means to be a Guardian.
For TWAB this week, we’ll be sharing some details about a specific August date you’ll want to look into. We’re also checking out some of the awesome Solstice rewards players can earn in the real world, reopening the Trials of Osiris voting, and seeing what happened to our good friend Banshee-44. But first, let’s start with a special event we’re doing next month because, frankly, we’re too dizzy to drag on. With that said, let’s get right down to business, shall we?
We’re excited to announce the date for the next Destiny 2 showcase! We would like to invite you to mark August 23, 2022 in your calendars. No spoilers, but we’re excited to show you what’s next. Who knows, we might even have a few surprises up that proverbial sleeve.
Please enjoy a little teaser below because you know we’re too excited to leave it all to just ‘save the date’. Watch the No Escape video below for the story of Light and Darkness to prepare for the Showcase that looms on the horizon.
We also want to take this moment to set some expectations before the demo itself. Since we have some interesting events planned for the next month, TWAB will not announce any important news until this date. We’ll still keep you all updated on what’s going on in the game itself, but we won’t be sharing any groundbreaking revelations until everyone (not you, the Witness) sees the demo coming out next month.
We’re making changes to various vendors in Destiny 2, and with the new season just around the corner, the team thinks Season 18 is the perfect time to make some changes to the “old Banshee.” To talk about what transformations players can look forward to when looking at the rating of this gunsmith reputation bar, we have Joshua Kulinsky, Leading Economist here are some of those changes on behalf of the team.
Joshua Kulinsky: Over the past two seasons, we’ve been evaluating the data as well as your feedback on Gunsmith Reputation progress. And just like Banshee-44’s memory, it’s not exactly where we’d like it to be. To address this issue, we will be making several changes in Season 18. Here is a quick overview of what players can expect:
First, as of Season 18, completing Gunsmith Daily Bounties will now grant 50 Gunsmith Reputation each (up from 25), for a total of 200 Gunsmith Reputation each day. Because of this, you’ll want to make sure and stop by to say hello to old Exo when you’re hanging out at the Tower.
Second, and more importantly for players, Gunsmith Reputation gained from scrapping Legendary or Exotic weapons and armor will be increased to 5 (up from 3). This will significantly increase the speed of gaining reputation as a gunsmith.
In general, we want passionate players to be able to reset Banshee-44 reputation at least once per Season. While these changes, coming in Season 18, will allow players to increase their Exo rank more effectively, we will continue to monitor and evaluate progress over the coming seasons. We hope these changes make the Gunsmith reputation system more useful in Season 18. So go ahead and get that loot! As Banshee-44 always says, “Every little thing helps. Believe me.”
The Solstice is live, and now we can all touch the grass in the Tower together. Feel it? This is good photosynthesis. Do you know what else quality is? The new Bungie Rewards 2022 Solstice Tee and Tank are available now in the Bungie Store. Okay, okay, that pin with the seal of the Flame Keeper is pretty dainty too, I won’t lie.
If you’re like me and don’t have the self-control when it comes to awesome new loot, earning the latest items is pretty easy. (No glowing parts, but we can make them radioactive if you really want to. Maybe. I’ll be back soon, I’ll check with the legal department…). In terms of wearable gear, Guardians will need to ensure they complete the Solstice ramp chase series by August 9th at 10:00 AM PT. To receive the badge, Guardians must complete the Seal of the Solstice of 2022 and receive the appropriate title by the same date. And no, you’re not crazy, this is actually the first time the Solstice will earn a Seal, so go for it. After all, the great Rihanna once said, “Shine bright like a diamond.” Just imagine that “diamond” means that sweet, sweet glow of the armor. It’s practically the same.
The sun is a deadly loser…
Solstice live, our player support drinks caffeine; we’re ready to rock! This week’s Player Support Report contains information about Bonfire Bash events and missing Bungie Foundation emblems. Since the event has just begun, more known issues are being identified and fixed. For now, here’s what the team has in store for the near future.
This is their report.
Maximum Silver Ash
Players who complete the Campfire Treat with the maximum amount of Silver Ash can still convert their Silver Leaves without receiving any more Silver Ash.
Players need to make sure they have room to earn more Silver Ash before completing the quest.
- 9:00 AM (4:00 PM UTC): Destiny 2 maintenance begins.
- 09:45 (16:45 UTC): Destiny 2 goes offline.
- 10:00 AM (17:00 UTC): Destiny 2 Update 126.96.36.199 will begin rolling out across all platforms and regions.
- 11:00 (18:00 UTC): Destiny 2 maintenance is complete.
While we continue to investigate various known issues, here is a list of the latest issues reported to us on our #Help forum:
- Some players who have donated to the Bungie Foundation Giving Festival may have blank emblems in their Collections.
- The Kindling and Ember armor mod slots for the Candescent armor incorrectly use the icon to modify combat style armor on the armor menu screen.
- The Solstice Seashore Pack does not open to the player after unboxing the pack. We are currently working on a fix for affected players.
- The latest update made unintended changes to The Last Word’s damage output, which will be adjusted to the intended levels in a future patch.
- Some actions do not give silver leaves, including Dares of Eternity, Sever, Altars of Sorrow, Patrols, and Blind Well.
- The Exotic Sparrow Hyperborean Pinion obtained from the Fuel for the Fire III Triumph on Solstice does not appear in collections.
- Solstice Candescent armor cannot be synthesized into an armor ornament.
- Molten Overload Grenade will sometimes not stun champions.
- The Claim button does not appear for Hunter characters on the Season Pass Rewards page. Players can still purchase items by scrolling through the Season Pass rewards list and pressing the request button on individual unclaimed rewards in the list.
- Some completed triumphs cannot be tracked for some players.
For feature film fans, we have two very different experiences. Relive the nostalgia of playing with buddies in good old co-op co-op mode as four Guardians complete one Duality dungeon. This video is helpful because friends even traveled to different countries to make this happen, and if that’s not just the most enjoyable, I don’t know what is.
As for our second pick, and let’s be honest, that’s me we’re talking about, so no one should be surprised, you can go down the path of the meme and enjoy Kaiatl’s breakdance during the Catharsis final mission for the Haunted season. Because it’s natural.
Got popcorn? Good. Enjoy!

Bruno: I love Eris. I love Drifter. I love both Mundust and the Rat, and I hope they share some feelings of affection too. They tolerate each other and at least work well together. Anyway, I never thought such a short and obviously nonsensical phrase would be among my favorite quotes from Destiny 2, but here we are.

AOTW bonus pick? This time of year? At this time of day? Fully localized within this TWAB? Okay!

Before you hit the road, we have something else for Trials of Osiris players. For those who can’t wait to get into the next rotation of the Trials, you will have another chance to determine where the battle will go. On July 25th, players who signed up to receive Bungie’s marketing emails will be able to vote on which map they’d like to see in Trials Labs’ upcoming rotation between Eternity, Widow’s Court, and Rusted Lands.
We also wanted to sweeten up the Guardian voting basket a bit. For those interested in getting a shiny new emblem, we have a new community goal. If we can get 77,000 votes within the first 48 hours of voting starting, we will unlock a special reward via Bungie Rewards. This badge can be used whether or not you receive our marketing emails.
In the meantime, you know the rule: drink water, take care of yourself, and continue to be incredibly kind.
