“Well, Gloria, looks like you and I will be taking a trip to Washington together soon.”
These words, spoken during the speech “in conversation” for Fashion with Gloria Stein contemplating overturning the Supreme Court decision Rowe vs. WadeMeghan Markle has once again sparked speculation that she may be contemplating a new move in her life, this time as a full-fledged political activist.
It may be that Meghan picked the wrong time for the interview, as she chose to be interviewed just a few days before the well-known date that the royal reports were released, a normally dry event that has become extraordinarily interesting this year as the palace broke an earlier promise to release the report. reports alleged bullying by Meghan while she was a working member of the UK-based royal family.
As desirable as this olive branch from the palace was to Harry and Meghan personally, it has brought attention back to Meghan for all the wrong reasons. But that shouldn’t detract from the significance of the interview itself, which, while attacking the Supreme Court’s decision to turn back the clock on women’s rights in unequivocal and harsh terms, was exactly what Meghan could never have done had she remained part of the royal family.
What is the scope of Meghan’s ambitions? One of its main skeptics, Dan Wooton, writes in daily mail, one of her close aides was quoted as saying to him (when Meghan was still a member of the royal family): “Now I’m convinced that something more is going on here – a possible plan that includes running for office in America,” said courtier. in a moment of frustration admitted to statements about their director’s increasingly out-of-control behavior. “She is obsessed with US politics. I think we (the royal family) are now just a stepping stone to something that she sees as much more important and attractive.”
But Wootton says those political ambitions could be put to rest if the nature and extent of the allegations of bullying Markle, which the Palace has indicated he wants to bury forever, comes to light. And given that this is usually the case in today’s world, how is the palace going to keep everything a secret in order to maintain some peace in the royal family?
Speaking of Harry’s family, the intervention Meghan made this week is completely out of reach for another highly opinionated member of the royal family, Prince Charles. While he may not have much to say about constitutional abortion rights in the US, he does have something to say on other issues. So he’s likely to treat Meghan’s newfound bluntness with grudging respect, admiration, and perhaps even a touch of jealousy.
He has been relentlessly criticized for his “meddling” over the years, often drawing negative comparisons to his mother’s incomprehensibility. However, that hasn’t stopped him from diving into a range of debates, and he has spoken out candidly on a range of issues ranging from agriculture and conservation to climate change, alternative medicine and architecture.
“He’s not going to just suddenly shut up when he’s king,” Charles’ friend told The Daily Beast. The friend added that Charles may be frustrated by what he perceives as the shackles his role places on his ability to speak and act freely on issues he passionately cares about.
While Charles is voicing his opinion “privately” before it goes public, Meghan has been very public about what millions of other people are saying publicly and privately: the decision was a “rights revocation scheme.” The ruling is a signal for the future of same-sex marriage, access to contraceptives, and many basic privacy rights. It’s like the tip of the iceberg and is part of why people are so scared.”
Asked if Meghan would like to work on women’s rights, she replied: “Absolutely. Being at home, seeing what is happening in our country, and feeling energized and motivated, if this is the type of legislation that we need to push through, then this is the moment when I will definitely come. Not only because it’s what we need as women, but also what we need as human beings.”
Republican politicians, of course, immediately attacked Meghan not only for her views, but for their expression.
While many criticize Meghan and Harry as amateur millionaires, this article actually showed the extraordinary distance that Harry and Meghan have traveled from the learned double entenders and professionally neutral stance that shape – some would say solidify – British royal life.
Inevitably, there will be critics who will say that it was bad taste for Meghan to reveal Harry’s political views on the matter – she said her husband was a feminist and described his shocked reaction to the SCOTUS decision as “gutty” – given that he was all he is also sixth in line to the throne and has the rudimentary constitutional role of the so-called “counselor of state”, who can, together with another person, act on behalf of the queen in the event of her incapacity.
“It’s amazing how few celebrities – from A-list to D-list – actually run for office.”
— John McHenry
However, others welcome Meghan’s overtly political stance in interviews, saying it’s time for her to start using her role to lobby and influence causes she believes in, rather than just enjoying the life of a millionaire in Montecito.
While campaigning on important issues seems like a natural next step for Meghan (her office did not respond to a request for comment), few people expect Meghan to actually start campaigning for her post. First, where will she run and when? The California filing deadline for the next round of elections is long past.
And in fact, running for and being in public office is a very different proposition than picking and choosing key reasons to support.
As political strategist John McHenry told The Daily Beast, “It’s amazing how few celebrities – whether they’re on the Top List or on the D List – actually run for office.”
It may not matter to Meghan.
According to the book, on her first date with Prince Harry. Looking for freedom; “Harry talked about his charity work, excitedly telling her stories from his extensive travels in Africa. Their “passion for change for the better,” as Harry described it, was, according to Meghan, “one of the first things we got in touch with.”
It seems that this is a passion that has not gone away.
