Sandman trailer shown at Comic-Con and I’ll be talking about Gwendolyn Christie as Lucifer for a few days.
Hello, yes, hello! At San Diego Comic-Con 2022 this weekend, the upcoming cast Sandman took over the iconic Hall H and it was epic. The panel showed a first look at the series, which included a stunning first trailer.
Tom Sturridge, Gwendolyn Christie, Boyd Holbrook, Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Vivienne Achampong, Jenna Coleman, Vanesu Samunyai, Mason Alexander Park and Patton Oswalt took the stage with writer Neil Gaiman and showrunner Allan Heinberg to talk more about the upcoming adaptation along with long awaited trailer.
Based on the comic book series of the same name by Gaiman. Sandman follows Morpheus (Tom Sturridge), also known as The Dream, who gives shape to all of our deepest fears and fantasies. However, when Dream is suddenly captured and imprisoned for over a century, his absence sets off a series of events that change both the dream world and the waking world.
To restore order after his absence, Dream embarks on a journey through different worlds and timelines to right his wrongs. This is followed by a great adventure in which Dream visits old friends and enemies and meets new entities, both cosmic and human.
Speaking at Comic-Con, Neil Gaiman revealed that Tom Sturridge was one of the first people they saw in Dream and was one of the early favorites. In fact, casting director Lucinda Syson for Sandman also worked with Neil on star dust in 2007.
“[Lucinda] sent us four tapes to listen to, and Tom’s recording was obviously the best,” Neil began. “I figured we’d soon have a dozen like him. And you know, he was there, and then we saw another 50 or 60 people; it was still just Tom, and then we saw a few 100 more people, and it was still just Tom. And by the end of the process, I think we looked at like 1,000 auditions and it was still Tom.”
Along with Dream, we also meet many wonderful characters from Sandman Neil Gaiman as Gwendolyn Christie as Lucifer Morningstar. Like, look how perfect she looks.
At Comic-Con, Gwendoline spoke about preparing for the role of Lucifer, saying, “I just got back into comics. I know everyone was so dedicated to bringing these comics to life. initially it seemed underground, very special, not many people knew about it, and then the love for it really grew. I feel like there’s a certain responsibility attached to it.”
“Also, with the landscape of our lives at the moment, I think we’ve all begun to realize that lack of empathy is evil. Shutdown is evil. to that. And to bring to life this incredible character that these amazing people have helped bring to life.”
Mason Alexander Park as the gorgeous and flawless Desiree and Kirby Howell-Baptiste as Death. The duo, along with Dream, is made up of the Endless siblings along with Despair (Donna Preston). Mason teased the relationship between Death and Wish, saying it was “the ultimate rivalry between siblings”.
We also see Jenna Coleman as Joanna Constantine, and fans in Hall H even got an extended first look at Joanna in action as she performs an exorcism at a church.
And finally, in the trailer, we get a glimpse of the iconic Rose Walker brought to life by Vanesa Samunyai. Vanes explained Rose’s storyline in the first season by saying that she was looking for her brother and “Morpheus is here to help her”.
First season Sandman will consist of 10 episodes, each of which will be a separate story, and Morpheus will connect them all. To be honest, with every episode it feels like you’re reading a book number by Neil Gaiman. Sandman comics.
