PRIVACY TIP: 5 WAYS YOU SHOULD BE STOP

How to use Gmail filters

Think of filters as an alternative to folders in Gmail. Use them to flag messages, archive, delete, flag or auto-forward mail.

If you’ve been the victim of endless spam and other annoying messages, this is the perfect way to beat the spammers. You’ll get rid of spam passing through the spam filter with the right filters.

Filters are also useful to move everything from, say, your aunt who never stops submitting articles to one specific location. Or filter messages from your HOA to easily find what you need.

There are several ways to set up filters in Gmail. One straight from your inbox.

Strike Show search options icon in the search bar at the top. (Looks like three lines with a slash through it.) The filter menu immediately opens, allowing you to create a filter with any of these options:

Sender and recipient (if you have multiple addresses)

Topic content

Keywords in the body of the email

Email size

Date sent or received

Is there an attachment in the email

Enter search criteria. To make sure your search is working properly, see which emails are displayed by clicking Search. If everything looks good, click “Create Filter” at the bottom of the search box.

When you create a filter, only new messages will be affected. Another thing to keep in mind is that when someone replies to a post you’ve filtered, the reply will only be filtered if it matches the same search criteria.

Pro Tip: Gmail Filter Ideas

What is the best way to use Google filters? Apart from what I mentioned above, here are a few to consider.

Prioritize messages from your most important colleagues.

Keep receipts, invoices and payment confirmations in one place.

Automatically mark important things for archiving – order numbers, tracking numbers and other data that can be referenced later.

Forward messages automatically or automatically reply to specific messages with a pre-written template.

Send less important or annoying messages to one place so you can read them at your leisure instead of leaving them in your inbox.

Most likely, your mailbox has been exhausted. Filters are one of the best solutions for productivity and peace of mind.
