Presumably, EA may be working on a brand new Marvel game. It’s currently unknown which Marvel IP will get its own game, but fans can speculate about who might appear in games in the future.
Marvel has had several success stories when it comes to adapting their famous comic book characters for video games, just look at Marvel’s Spider-Man, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, and Marvel’s Spider-Man’s Miles Morales. All three games are available on the PlayStation Plus Extra games list for PS Plus Premium and Extra subscribers. But according to a new rumor, it’s possible that another Marvel intellectual property will join these three great games, and no, it’s not Marvel’s Midnight Suns.
Update: The source didn’t mention any platform and adjustments were made accordingly, although it’s safe to assume – if the game exists and ever comes out – the PS5 will be at least.
Could this Marvel intellectual property focus on iconic characters like Scarlet Witch and Doctor Strange?
As Tech4Gamers reports, on the Xbox Era podcast, Nick Baker, a well-known industry expert, revealed that Electronic Arts is creating brand new Marvel intellectual property. However, he didn’t reveal much about what the IP was or what EA studio might be working on the project.
“The other day, this new source sent me a private message saying, ‘Hey, EA is making a Marvel game.’ I can’t [say more] – because he mentioned what it would probably be about (which IP) – and I can’t even give a hint. I’m bad at giving clues without giving anything away.”
Platforms weren’t mentioned, but it’s safe to assume that the current generation is on the table. Nick Baker also notes that he should have checked the rumor from several other sources before tagging him on the podcast. It’s also worth noting that since EA hasn’t officially announced any of this, so take a little pinch of salt with you, whether or not Baker is known for hitting the target more often than not.
If this information turns out to be true, Marvel could have another award-winning game like most recent releases – let’s just forget about Marvel’s Avengers, shall we? That EA is joining the project is a little worrisome as they haven’t had the best track record in recent years when it comes to games – anyone from Anthem? But let’s not forget the success stories of It Takes Two and Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order, proof that EA can still win.
It will be interesting to see which EA studio ends up working on this huge project, if it’s actually real. EA Montreal or EA Vancouver could be possible candidates to lead this unknown Marvel IP; however, it would be even more interesting if an EA studio like BioWare took the reins. Imagine a Marvel game with the same deep lore and interactions we saw in the Mass Effect Legendary Edition. Obviously, BioWare is very busy with the next Dragon Age game, which we now know is called Dragon Age Dreadwolf, and the next Mass Effect game, which everyone just calls Mass Effect 4 for now. So chances are that BioWare will work on it project are rather small, but we can hope.
With so little information, we are really left in the dark. For now, all we can do is hope that EA makes some kind of announcement in the near future. I will not hold my breath and expect this to happen anytime soon. If this turns out to be true, I’d like to play a game about Scarlet Witch or my favorite Marvel character, Elektra. It could be a decent R-rated hit from Marvel, just like the PS4 game Deadpool.
Marvel is currently at an all-time high in the film industry, with box office hits coming left, right and center. It makes perfect sense that Marvel wants to capitalize on its success and keep pushing that momentum forward, so making more video games is a fantastic idea. What do you think of this rumor? Which Marvel character would you like to see in your own game? Also, please tell me how much you love Garus in the comments below!
