Saturday night’s San Diego Comic-Con featured a panel from Marvel Studios in Hall H, scheduling the most phases 5 and 6 for the MCU when it comes to theatrical releases and Disney+ exclusive series. Many fans were expecting some kind of collaborative film featuring the Young Avengers to be announced at the convention due to the fact that the franchise had so many new and young faces during Phase 4. However, instead, Marvel Studios focused on revealing new projects. such as Daredevil: Reborn, Avengers: Kang Dynastyas well as Avengers: Secret Wars.

While there have been no official reports suggesting that a Young Avengers project is happening, many actors who portray young characters in the MCU have commented on the possibility. Hailee Steinfeld, actress Kate Bishop, didn’t deny when asked about The Young Avengers, but simply stated that “There are a lot of new opportunities emerging.” Billy Maximoff actor Julian Hilliard was also asked for his opinion on the superhero team, and he even named which actors he would like to work with on the project.

While there were no official announcements about Young Avengers at Comic-Con, Kevin Feige did have a few words on what to expect going forward.

Kevin Feige in The Young Avengers

After the Marvel Studios panel in Hall H at San Diego Comic-Con, MTV News’s Josh Horowitz asked Kevin Feige about the Young Avengers announcement being missing. Feige responded by mentioning that the MCU “amazing characters” It was “introduced in stage 4”, hinting that if there was a project involving the Young Avengers, it would go further:

“We have… we kind of remind people of all the amazing characters that we introduced in Phase 4 and where those characters are going and how they form their own cabals.”

Feige has been asked many times in the past about the Young Avengers. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly in March 2021, the Marvel boss was asked about the possible formation of this team, to which he stated that “potential (is) infinite” when it comes to the characters that were introduced in Phase 4:

“As a fan of comics, everything that is in comics is always a source of inspiration and reference for us. The way these things fit together and in what form always shatters expectations, it’s always half as much fun as meeting them. But, yes, you can certainly see that Phase 4 introduces all sorts of new character types with endless potential.”

In the same interview, Feige compared Marvel Studios to Nick Fury, especially when he has to tell “new actors” what “they are part of a larger universe:”

“Now we all at Marvel Studios feel like Nick Fury at the end iron Man 1 when new actors and new performers come in and we tell them that they are part of a larger universe. They just need to get the work done right now to build their audience. I’m happy to say that everyone here, especially where I’m sitting right now, is doing an amazing job and [I] can’t wait to show them the world.

It’s also important to remember that during the ComicBook interview before the release Hawkeye, actress Hailee Steinfeld was asked about the possibility of a joint project “Young Avengers”. She then looked back at Kevin Feige, and as they looked at each other for a while, it seemed like they had something to hide. Moments later, Steinfeld stated that “this is just the beginning” in response to the original Young Avengers question:

“I mean, look, it seems so crazy to me right now to just sit here with this group of people. I am so grateful to be a part of this show in this universe and this is just the beginning. This show hasn’t even ended yet. so I’m looking forward to that day.”

Will there be a Young Avengers movie?

It looks like there are plans for the Young Avengers to appear at some point in the future. There was too much evidence that something wasn’t working, from Kevin Feige’s direct quotes to Hailee Steinfeld’s look when asked about the team.

Feige’s quotes after the Comic-Con panel definitely don’t rule anything out, and while no one can speak for the president of Marvel Studios other than himself, it seems like he just wants fans to get to know the new characters better before they’ve seen it all together. So far, many of the new faces have only appeared in one, maybe two Phase 4 projects, so rushing them into a movie together when you need to know more about them might not be the wisest move.

It’s also important to remember that the MCU has already scheduled three major collaborative films for Phases 5 and 6, with two of them Avengers movies. If the Young Avengers project were to be crammed into the mix somewhere, there’s a good chance things could get cluttered up. Based on his quotes and reactions, it appears that Feige has a plan for the Young Avengers. Meanwhile, his statements hint at the possibility that there could be more solo projects in the works centered around some MCU newcomers, and fans always have already announced projects to look forward to.
