Bieber, who was recuperating in the Bahamas and Coeur d’Alene, said on June 10 that the right side of his face was temporarily paralyzed after he contracted herpes zoster.

“It is this virus that attacks the nerve in my ear and my facial nerves and causes my facial paralysis,” explained the Canadian singer, who boasts 550.5 million social media followers.

“As you can see, this eye doesn’t blink. I can’t smile with this side of my face. This nostril does not move, so this side of my face is completely paralyzed. So for those who are upset about my cancellations of the next shows, I’m just physically clearly not able to do them.

“It’s pretty serious, as you can see. I wish it wasn’t, but apparently my body is telling me to slow down. And I hope you guys understand and I will use this time to just sit back and relax and come back 100 percent so I can do what I was born to do. But in the meantime, that’s not it. I have to go rest to get my face back where it should be.”
