Nearly two decades since they were last set to marry, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez finally tied the knot during an intimate ceremony in Las Vegas on Saturday, three months after announcing their second engagement in April.

When reports of their low-profile wedding began to surface on Sunday morning, Jennifer was quick to break the inside to her fans, writing in her exclusive newsletter that it was “the best wedding ever.”

“We flew into Vegas last night, stood in line for a license with four other couples, and they were all on the same journey to the wedding capital of the world,” she began, revealing that the city’s infamous white chapel remained open “for several minutes.” “. after midnight to relieve them.

“With the best witnesses imaginable, a dress from an old movie and a jacket from Ben’s closet, we recited our own vows in the little chapel and gave each other rings we’ll wear for the rest of our days,” Jennifer wrote.

“In the end, it was the best wedding we could have imagined,” she said. “One that we dreamed about for a long time, and one that became a reality (in the eyes of the state, Las Vegas, the pink convertible and each other) in a very, very long time.”

The riveting newsletter that hit fans’ inboxes on Sunday afternoon was adorned with behind-the-scenes photos of the night, including selfies of the newlyweds, who were both dressed in white for the brief but sweet ceremony.

Much to the surprise of many longtime J. Lo fans, the singer also confirmed that she had decided to take Ben’s last name, signing the message, “Love, Mrs. Jennifer Lynn Affleck.”

Of course, confirmation that she’s parting ways with her famous last name has divided the internet, with many social media users already trying out J.Aff as her new moniker.

Jennifer Lopez is objectively better than Jennifer Affleck, oh well. J. Aff? Nope.

But Jen’s decision to legally become Affleck shouldn’t come as a surprise, especially since it’s been on the cards for almost 20 years now.

In the unlikely event you need a reminder, Ben and Jennifer’s romance dates back to the early 2000s, when they solidified their status as one of Hollywood’s top couples.

They were just as famous then as they are today, and Ben and Jen’s relationship got a lot of publicity around this time – so much so that pressure forced them to postpone their wedding in September 2003, just days before they were reportedly were about to go to the altar. .

The public fascination with Ben and Jen after their engagement even prompted the couple to participate in a sit-in interview for a primetime Access Hollywood special.

During the special, which aired just a few months before the shocking postponement of their wedding, host Pat O’Brien questioned Jennifer about the prospect of a name change.

“After you get married, what will your name be?” O’Brien asked as Jen cooked with him in the kitchen of the couple’s rented house at the time.

“Jennifer Lopez, but I will obviously be Jennifer Affleck,” she answered confidently.

When Pat then asked what would become of her famous nickname, the singer joked that the new alternative didn’t fly off the tongue as easily.

“J.Aff,” she said, saying it “jaff.” “It’s not exactly the same,” she added with a laugh.

Now, nearly 20 years later, fans are buzzing with discussions like these, and many are wondering if J.Lo can finally transition into his J.Aff era.

Wherein, clip seems to suggest that while she may legally be an Affleck, Jennifer will likely stick with Lopez for her pro brand.

And while her thoughts on last names may have remained the same, the couple’s low-key Vegas wedding indicates that their approach to their relationship has changed a lot.

It’s no secret that the media scrutiny of their relationship, especially in the run-up to their long-awaited wedding, was the catalyst for their eventual breakup in the 2000s.

In fact, in a joint statement from Ben and Jen announcing their decision to cancel the ceremony, the couple revealed that the “excessive” attention had become so intense that they were forced to consider placing “bait brides” in different places to throw them off. MASS MEDIA.

“When we were seriously considering hiring three different ‘bait brides’ at three different locations, we knew something had gone wrong,” they said in a statement. “We began to feel that the spirit of what was supposed to be the happiest day of our lives might be compromised. We felt that what should have been a joyful and sacred day might be spoiled for us, our families and our friends.”

And since their romance rekindled last July, both Jennifer and Ben have been candid about their attempts to distance themselves from the same “violent” criticism that ruined their relationship the first time.

“It’s a beautiful love story and we got a second chance,” J. Lo told People magazine in February. “Before we sort of put [our relationship] there, and we were naive, and he was trampled a little.”

“Now we are older, we are smarter, we have more experience, we are in different areas of our lives, now we have children and we have to be very careful about these things,” she continued. “We’re so protective because it’s such a great time for all of us.”

So, all things considered, Ben and Jen’s low-key Las Vegas ceremony, while surprising for a top-of-the-line couple of their caliber, actually makes complete sense – and perhaps indicates a conscious effort to stay away from the familiar fanfare.
